Commenting half way through this essay because wow!! You’ve put my feelings into words! The celebration of the act will never come from me because I understand that whiteness as a mindset doesn’t see the value other people’s lives. So while I think that Luigi did something to start a larger conversation I can’t get behind the public celebration for him. Black people are killed by the state for much less! Just unfathomable!
If he’d been black, he would been shot dead at the scene of the crime or when he was picked up by law enforcement. And all we would have heard about is when he stole an extra cupcake from the lunch line in 2nd grade, making him a criminal and not a role model of the people. 😕
I really loved this, not only were u sensible and speaking facts instead of just fear u were personable too!! I agree with so much of this. There’s nuances and u didn’t speak about him or his actions in just a singular lens. What Luigi did was a (if not unarguably at least could’ve been) revolutionary statement imo but his politics (or lack of) that went into it kinda moots it/the bigger picture. I don’t see him as a savior or hero at all i just hope his action is the catalyst for the oppressed to finally wake up and realize we can not only disrupt the system and inflict change but we can do it in a grander and more meaningful way together!!
Oh I absolutely know you don’t! I didn’t mean to portray it that way at all. I completely agree with you. I thought it was a profound way to see what happened
No I don’t think u portrayed it that way at all!! I was just referring to all the other pieces I read about him and all the notes positioning as some hero (you probably seen them too). I was just basically reiterating/agreeing with your article
this was amazing. it made me feel so SEEN in a way i have yet to really experience when it comes to luigi discourse. it has been so hard seeing the ways that he has been sexualised and deified by leftists despite his very shitty/wonky politics. and all of this against the backdrop of jordan neely sent me in such a spiral. it feels so so good to ground myself in real black radical thought. i’m so happy. you did so well
This is such a meaningful compliment. Thank you hon <3. We have to stay focused in our own thought even when immersed in ideas that don’t align with us
I ultimately agree with the main argument here, that individual actions don’t have the power to bring about revolution; only collective action can. However, I do think that individual actions can give way to collective action. I think the Luigi TikTok’s have raised consciousness for some that may or may not have been reachable in other ways
> I don’t think Luigi has the political range to understand why choosing a healthcare CEO to kill was so genius.
This line confused me though, because like…..he does tho. I don’t think the CEO was chosen at random. Whatever his individual politics (which I’ve seen various reports of, but don’t ultimately care to pursue) the politics of the action seem pretty loud and clear. Unless I’m misunderstanding you here
Individual actions only make sense when community exists to back it up. Think of the Māori woman in parliament who did the Haka. If she were the only one that knew the Haka it would have no impact. It’s only because she has community that it made any impact. What community did Luigi have that collectively understands a cohesive politic?
I don’t think Luigi’s choosing of the CEO was as politically motivated as a lot of people are projecting onto him. He understood healthcare was inaccessible but what viable politic did he have that was associated with this principle? None. It was only because he had a personal experience in this one area that motivated him to have a deviant belief from the rest of his politics. There’s no way he understands the depth of his actions from a leftist perspective because he wasn’t one.
His family was racist af and he believed in RFK. I do believe lots of white people were projecting their political fantasies onto his actions. He really didn’t do anything other than start discussion around healthcare and the discussions aren’t even good.
This perfectly sums up my unease with the Mangione. Every time I heard Biden, or whomever, say “This isn’t who we are.” after whatever act of violence - I always thought to myself, are you fucking kidding? Our country was formed by violent acts. Every step of the way.

Babe the way these thoughts have been swirling in my mind I’m so glad to put it down, I knew someone else would feel me!

❗️❗️❗️ White liberals LOVE to detach themselves from the constant violence they’re enacting.
❤️🙌🔥
This is my favorite piece so far on here. Thank you for saying what most people won’t.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
